College, Career and Life Readiness (CCLR) Framework: Data that Provides a 360 Degree View

College, Career and Life Readiness (CCLR) Framework:

Data that Provides a 360 Degree View

Administrators are continually searching for ways to effectively measure college, career and life readiness (CCLR) outcomes. Federal and state mandates are requiring more robust reporting for schools and districts to demonstrate performance on key college milestones, including postsecondary applications, admits, enrollments, persistence and graduation rates. Currently educators are primarily focusing on three of these: applications, admits, and enrollment. When administrators focus in on these three data points, they aren’t provided with a full, 360 degree view of the data they need to understand CCLR programming effectiveness. To fully evaluate a CCLR program, an educator must evaluate the key outcomes that their CCLR program is driving.

Administrators across the country are seeking data to help inform their decisions on where school staff should focus their CCLR efforts. A few themes emerge, including:

  • Tactics and activities that engage students
  • Data to effectively apply for grants
  • CCLR activity completion rates
  • Data that pinpoints what is working for increasingly diverse demographics
  • Which scholarships are awarded most

Evaluation of these themes provides a broader view into the overall effectiveness of a district’s CCLR programming, including student and parent engagement.

Using Data to Drive Outcomes

The data we’re using today is not enough. Only 60% of students who start at a college or university are completing a degree at that same institution (NCES, 2018). This trend is concerning to administrators, because the goal of CCLR programming goes beyond students being admitted and enrolled in a postsecondary training program, to completing that program and entering the workforce prepared for success. Ensuring this data is easily transferable and translatable makes it much easier to align strategies across the district, making a greater impact.

Understanding the need for more meaningful data, Naviance collected feedback from districts and schools across the country to define the primary outcomes they are striving to improve. Starting with a randomly selected group of schools across a 7-year period, the team analyzed each school’s Naviance usage data, resulting in more than 150 variables measured. The team then analyzed the variables that had the strongest correlation to previously defined student outcomes. These variables were then grouped into: demographic and institutional, academic, college preparation, and general Naviance usage variables. From there, the team examined which Naviance activities within each group had the greatest impact on the desired outcomes, such as creating a resume, taking AP courses, and standardized tests like ACT & SAT. The team then condensed the variables down to the 17 activities tracked in Naviance that has the greatest impact on college outcomes, each of which is measured within Naviance Insights dashboards.

Track Outcomes and Report Results with Naviance Insights

Naviance Insights dashboards provide educators with targeted data, enabling them to build their CCLR strategy around proven results. This data is delivered through the Naviance platform and spans 17 variables proven to correlate with key college outcomes. With Naviance Insights, educators are able to make the most informed decisions from the most targeted data, in the most timely way.

Analyze performance quickly and easily using 3 dashboards to track key outcomes related to:

  • College Application
  • College Acceptances
  • College Enrollment
  • College Persistence and Graduation

Persistence, graduation, and other alumni data are not always easy to capture. These outcomes are dependent on students making best-fit decisions, which ultimately begins with developing a post-secondary plan which can be done in Naviance.

Naviance Insights Premium

With Naviance Insights Premium, educators are now able to access valuable data related to college persistence, graduation and key alumni metrics. Through the Outcomes Dashboard, educators are provided a year-over-year lens into the alumni outcomes for each graduating class. This data is seamlessly passed from the National Student Clearinghouse, which enables educators to compare their individual school outcomes with school outcomes data throughout the district via the Analysis Dashboard. Here, educators can begin to analyze which schools are performing at the highest level and dig deeper into the key CCLR activities that are driving those outcomes - with the ability to filter via ethnicity, gender, and designated student populations. Each dashboard provides a key lens into school performance, with a level of detail needed to further drive strategy, or pivot accordingly.
