Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Selects Naviance for College and Career Readiness
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Launches Naviance to Ensure Equitable
College and Career Access for All Students
ARLINGTON, VA – July 9, 2019 – Hobsons, the education technology leader and company behind Naviance, today announced that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS), the 18th largest school district in the US, has partnered with Naviance by Hobsons. Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools chose Naviance as part of its district-wide commitment to ensuring equitable access, closing opportunity gaps, and reaching educational equity in their community.
Beginning in Fall 2018, CMS launched Naviance district-wide to approximately 44,000 high school students. The implementation of Naviance provides critical support of the goals laid out in the district's’ strategic plan: 1) Every student graduates with meaningful employment or higher education opportunities, 2) Every student has access to a rich, diverse, and rigorous curriculum, and 3) Every student has access to more social and emotional supporters.
“The opportunity for all Charlotte-Mecklenburg students to access the Naviance platform has greatly enhanced our ability to provide our young people with the tools for academic success and postsecondary planning,” said Dr. Clayton Wilcox, Superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. “College and career research, as well as personal strength and skill exploration are now readily accessible to each of our scholars.
Just a few months after CMS implemented Naviance, it became evident that the district’s efforts to help ensure every graduate is college and career ready are strengthened by Naviance. 99% of students that logged in 25+ times applied to a four-year college. Nearly 50% of students that used Naviance applied to at least one college. Additionally, students who created a resume in Naviance were found to have been admitted to a college at a rate of 79% higher than those who did not. Throughout Fall 2018 alone, CMS used Naviance to electronically send 292,000 college applications documents.
CMS joins many other large districts in North Carolina who utilize Naviance, including: Union County Public Schools, Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools, Iredell Statesville Schools, Cabarrus County Schools, and Alamance Burlington School System.
“We are proud to partner with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in their effort to provide the best college, career and life readiness planning to their students and families,” said Monica Morrell, General Manager of Naviance. “It is our mission to provide information and resources to help CMS school counselors, faculty, students and parents engage in meaningful conversations about student’s options after high school and to focus on long-term outcomes, such as providing equity and access to all student populations, increasing access to postsecondary planning for families, and eliminating the opportunity gap.”
